Who requires this qualification?

The Highfield Level 2 Online Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Top Up) is for learners who currently hold a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a door supervisor and need to be brought up to date with the new licence-linked qualifications requirements.

Entry requirements

  • New, updated qualifications for all sectors apart from close protection and vehicle immobilisation
  • Learners must have a first aid qualification before taking the training required for a Door Supervisor or Security Guard licence.
  • Applicants must have one of the new qualifications – or have taken top-up training – before they can apply for a door supervisor and security guard licence. This includes renewals.

Language Requirements

Learners should, as a minimum, have language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening equivalent to the following.
• A B2 Level qualification on the Home Office’s list of recognised English tests and
qualifications.
• A B2 Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
• An ESOL qualification at (Level 1) on the Ofqual register taken in England, Wales or Northern
Ireland.
• An ESOL qualification at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework Level 5 awarded by
the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and taken in Scotland.
• Functional Skills Level 1 in English.
• SQA Core Skills in Communication at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework Level 5.
• Essential Skills Wales Communication Level 1.
• Level 1 in Essential Skills – Communication Northern Ireland

What does the qualification cover?

Modules are:
1. Principles of Terror Threat Awareness (self-study prior learning)
2. Principles of Using Equipment as a Door Supervisor (self-study + classroom assessment)
3. Application of Physical Intervention Skills (classroom)

Assessment:
3 multiple choice exams and 2 practical assessments.
To complete this qualification learners are expected to undertake approximately 23 hours of learning. The SIA requires a minimum of 13 hours 35 minutes contact time (if self-study is undertaken.)

Topics include:
• terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat
• use of equipment relevant to a door supervisor
• actions to take in relation to global
• (or critical) incidents
• physical interventions and the implications of their use
• the risks associated with using physical intervention
• how to reduce the risks associated with physical intervention

ASSESSMENT

The SIA L2 Door Supervisor course (Top-up) is assessed by three multiple-choice paper exams and two practical assessments that you will complete during attendance as follows:

Module 1: Principles of Terror Threat Awareness

  • 10-question multiple-choice exam paper
  • Examination duration: 20 minutes
  • 70% pass mark

Module 2: Principles of Using Equipment as a Door Supervisor

  • 5-question multiple-choice exam paper
  • Examination duration: 10 minutes
  • 70% pass mark

Module 3: Application of Physical Intervention

  • 30-question multiple-choice exam paper
  • Examination duration: 45 minutes
  • 80% pass mark
