The Qualification

A Level 2 Award for working as a door supervisor within the private security industry is required by law to apply for an SIA licence to work as a door supervisor.

Who requires this qualification?

Any business selling alcohol including small pubs, retailers, large nightclubs, cafés, restaurants, hotels and sports facilities may need trained security staff qualified as door supervisors who hold an SIA licence.

Entry requirements

  • 18 years or over
  • Current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate meeting the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981

Language requirements

Learners should have language skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening) equivalent to:

  • B2 Level qualification on the Home Office list of recognised English tests and qualifications

Assessment

4 multiple-choice exams and practical assessments. Approx. 61 hours total learning. The SIA requires a minimum of 44 contact hours (6 days) if self-study is undertaken.
