Struggling to Pass the SafeContractor Assessment?
SafeContractor Gold is one of the most widely recognised UK compliance accreditations. It is increasingly required by major construction, FM, housing, and corporate buyers. But the application is detailed, evidence-heavy, and easy to fail if you’re unsure what to upload.
Evidence Confusion
Unsure which policies, procedures, and training records meet SafeContractor Gold standards.
Repeated Rejections
Documents being declined for “insufficient detail” or “not demonstrating compliance”.
Health and Safety Gaps
Missing RAMS, accident logs, training evidence, or contractor management processes required for approval.

What is the difference between SafeContractor and SafeContractor Gold?
Standard SafeContractor focuses on core health and safety requirements. SafeContractor Gold adds checks on environmental management, quality, equality, modern slavery, anti-bribery, and corporate governance—making it far more attractive to large buyers.
Do we need SafeContractor Gold if we already have Constructionline Gold?
Many buyers want both. Constructionline Gold covers PQQ requirements under PAS 91, while SafeContractor Gold is specifically recognised for health and safety and wider ethical standards.
How long does SafeContractor Gold take to achieve?
Once your evidence is complete, you can typically achieve Gold status within 7–14 working days depending on assessor turnaround.
Is SafeContractor recognised by SSIP?
Yes. SafeContractor is a founding member of the SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) forum. Achieving SafeContractor accreditation gives you SSIP status, which is mutually recognised by other schemes.
What happens if I fail the assessment?
It's common to receive action points or queries on the first submission. We review the feedback, help you correct the documents or provide the missing evidence, and resubmit until approved.
Can sole traders apply for SafeContractor Gold?
Yes. The requirements are scaled based on your business size (e.g., fewer than 5 employees). Sole traders need fewer documents than larger companies but must still prove competence and safety.
Do I need a Health and Safety Policy?
Yes. Even if you have fewer than 5 employees (where a written policy isn't legally mandatory), SafeContractor requires a signed policy statement to demonstrate your commitment to safety.
What insurance do I need?
You typically need Public Liability and Employers' Liability (if you have staff) insurance. The specific levels (e.g., £5m or £10m) depend on your clients' requirements and the nature of your work.
Does SafeContractor help with finding work?
Yes. Once accredited, you appear on the SafeContractor client portal, which is used by hundreds of major organisations to find pre-vetted suppliers.
How much does SafeContractor membership cost?
The membership fee is paid directly to SafeContractor (Alcumus) and varies based on your number of employees. Our consultancy fee is separate and covers the support to get you passed.
What training records do I need?
You need to show evidence of relevant training for your trade (e.g., Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling, Working at Height, CSCS cards) for your operatives.
Is a site visit required?
Usually, no. SafeContractor is primarily a desktop audit of your documentation. However, you must provide real-world evidence like completed risk assessments from recent jobs.
Can I upgrade from Standard to Gold later?
Yes. You can start with the Standard accreditation and upgrade to Gold at any time by paying the difference in membership fee and submitting the additional sustainability and ethical evidence.
Do I need to renew every year?
Yes. SafeContractor accreditation is an annual scheme. You must renew your membership and update your evidence (like insurance and training records) each year.
What is "Deem to Satisfy"?
If you already have a valid SSIP certificate from another provider (like CHAS), SafeContractor may accept this for the health and safety part of the assessment, reducing the workload and sometimes the fee.
